Eagles Win Four In A Row

For the second weekend in a row, it was cold, wet, and miserable at the Collie Recreation Ground, and for three quarters so was the game, with little to no highlights, which changed in the blink of an eye in the final term.

Leading by eleven points at quarter time, the Eagles were able to keep Carey Park to five behinds at the major break, leading by 20 points.

The third quarter, in very dark conditions, the Eagles totally dominated, however after an early goal, kick seven behinds, with some embarrassing misses.  It was left to Jayce Fontana, who won the goal kicking two years ago, who snuck down from full back an kicked accurately to stop the run of behinds.   Viv Blurton would kick the Panthers first goal at the 21 minute mark, to have the home team leading by 31 points at the final break.

With constant rain falling and the lights on, the Eagles slammed on six goals in eight minutes in the worst conditions of the day, eventually kicking eight goals in a rampant final term.  The Eagles had 33 scoring shots and could have and should have won by more, but woeful kicking saw the final margin being 84 points.  The Eagles have now only given up three goals in their last two games, and have rocketed up the ladder to now be sixth, leading into the bye, passing Carey Park, who’s already low percentage took a major hit after Sunday’s loss.

Collie a month ago were second last, now find themselves in sixth place, one game off fifth placed Bunbury, having beaten Donnybrook, Eaton Boomers, South Bunbury and Carey Park in the last four weeks.    The Eagles after the bye will take on Busselton, while Carey Park will look to bounce back against South Bunbury who also returned to the winners list on Sunday after downing Harvey Bulls.
