Eaton Boomers ran riot at the Collie Recreation Ground on a very warm Sunday afternoon, with Jarrod Humphries kicking ten goals in a brilliant display of goal kicking, infront of a good crowd.
Humphries kicked the first three goals of the match, and things didn’t look good for the home team, however Matt Michael kicked two quick goals including a great snap near the behind line to have the home team back in the match. When Jacob Peters kicked the Eagles third from the goal line the margin was back to two points, with Jason Roney putting the home team in front after kicking a good goal on the run.
Despite the Boomers kicking four goals to one in the second quarter, the match felt like it was still in the balance, though the momentum was with the visitors when Karl Collard marked just prior to the siren and just cleared the line after the siren to have Eaton in front by fourteen points at the main break.
The third quarter saw the Boomers run and stun the Eagles, kicking seven goals and to be truthful should have kicked more, as they also kicked eight behinds, splitting the game wide open, with Humphries kicking a further two goals to have six at the final break.
The final quarter was better by the Eagles who only managed one goal in the third term. They would kick five in the final quarter, but conceded ten as Kelvin Lawrence kicked three for the term, only to be outdone by Humphries who kicked four including dribbling his tenth for the match from 20 metres out. With fifteen goals kicked, the final term went 35 minutes and 20 seconds, with the match finishing at 5.20pm.
Ironically, Collie Eagles score of 11.7.73 was the third highest score of the weekend.
Eaton Boomers will face fellow winner Carey Park on Sunday at Glen Huon Reserve, while Collie will play South Bunbury at Hands Memorial Oval, also on Sunday, who also lost their opening round match.
