Lions Dismantle Boomers In Grand Final Fizzer

Harvey Brunswick Leschenault have won the 2019 Dale Alcock Homes South West, SWFL League Grand Final, with a comprehensive win over the Eaton Boomers at Hands Memorial Oval on Sunday afternoon.

The Lions kicked with the breeze to the Scoreboard end in the opening quarter and had the opening goal on the board in a matter of minutes, with the Boomers on the back foot from the outset.

Held scoreless in the opening quarter, the Boomers got more of the ball in the second quarter, but didn’t look like kicking a goal from set shots, spraying kicks to both sides of the goals.  The Lions went into the forward fifty rarely in the second quarter but kicked a goal, keeping the margin at 23 points at the main break.

Any hope of a Boomers revival in the third quarter was snuffed out with quick goals to the undefeated HBL outfit, with Zac Piper finishing with five of the teams nine goals.  The crowd mostly stayed, mainly it could be argued to see if the Boomers would score a goal, as they peppered the Southern goal for a further four behinds, with the tenth behind the closest of the lot, with the goal umpire having a very close look before signalling a behind to the groans of the crowd.

The Boomers kicked their first goal at the two minute mark of the final quarter, but required another to save them the embarrassment of a record low score.  To their credit they would kick four last quarter goals, but the match and the spectacle was over well before three quarter time.

Jack Fletcher was the best player on the ground, with Piper’s five goals also impressive, as was Josh Underwood and Ben Ablett.    Jarrad Fazioli tried hard all day for the Boomers, who sadly on the day were no match for the Lions, who record their ninth premiership and first since 2010.
