The South West League Team has been bundled out of the Landmark Country Football Championships, after two loses in their final two round robin fixtures at Bassendean Oval today.
Earlier today, Goldfields defeated the South West by 11 points in a tight affair, which lead to a showdown with Upper Great Southern.
Leading into the final match for both teams, both had won two matches, both losing to Goldfields, with both having almost identical percentages (191.43% – 191.14%), meaning the equation was simple, win and face Goldfields in tomorrow’s Grand Final, lose and finish third.
After a tight first half, Upper Great Southern ran away with the match in the second half to win by 20 points, kicking the last three goals of the game, leaving Upper Great Southern to play Goldfields in tomorrows Grand Final. Goldfields have not won the Championship since 1992, while Upper Great Southern haven’t been successful since 2010.
