A New Era Starts Sunday

In a new era for the SWFL, the Dunsborough Sharks will play their first ever League match this Sunday at 3.00pm at the Dunsborough Playing Fields in the final game of round two of the Dale Alcock Homes South West, SWFL Premiership season.

There has been much hype around players who will play for the Sharks this season, with announcements this week that Chris Masten has joined the Sharks along with David Mundy playing a one off game in June.  This on top of Pat McGinnity who was announced some time ago, along with inaugural captain, Max Paterson, there is a real vibe around Dunsborough as to what is possible in 2023.  Although Masten won’t play this week, the Sharks will be almost at full strength for their first match in the SWFL.

A competitive outfit with a new team would be a tick in season 2023 for the Sharks, who were highly competitive against Eaton and Harvey Brunswick Leschenault in two scratch matches held in early March.  Both of those teams were beaten in the opening round, with Dunsborough coming up against Donnybrook in the opening match, with the Dons sitting on top of the ladder after a bit win against Eaton.

Two players that the Sharks will need to watch are Jeff Smith and Zac Trigwell who provide the Dons with a potent forward line.  Conversely the Dons will need to be wary of the Sharks midfield, with plenty of players that the Dons would not have seen before.

One thing is for certain, the Dons won’t want to be the first team to lose to Dunsborough, while the Sharks will be looking to get a win on the board early in the season.  With no Football over Easter, this match promises to be a fast match, with both teams having plenty of time to recover before round three.
