Are The Don’s The Favourites This Season?

There are big names heading to Donnybrook this season, but are they the team to beat in 2024, we only have a week to wait to see how they perform this season.

One of the biggest names to join the SWFL in more recent years is Lewis Jetta, finds himself at Donnybrook in 2024.  The two time AFL Premiership star will join Matt Martin as another big recruit in the off season to join the Dons, who made the finals but were bundled out of contention by Carey Park in the first semi final.  Jetta though is playing Reserves, under Max Jetta Senior who takes the reigns of the Reserves team this season, finishing with just two wins in 2023.

Martin, the Leagues all time leading goal kicker, most recently played for Bunbury after several seasons at Carey Park.

Joining the duo will be Beau Luzi, who more recently played 21 League games for Swan Districts in the WAFL, and before that 55 games for Bunbury.    Jeff Smith and Cody Miller retired during the off season and Bradman May transferred to Secret Harbour, with the Dons likely to be one of the teams to beat this year.  Also returning to the South West Football League is Brandon Jetta, who will join a small list of players playing at their fifth SWFL club.  Jetta has had stints at Busselton, Carey Park, Harvey Bulls and most recently Eaton, with the forward amassing 163 goals across his SWFL career.

The side has plenty of experience, led by Captain Ben Howlett and Vice Captains Luke Dale and Jake Kendle, with Hamish Hutton, Sam Perkusich, Chris Atthowe and Todd Gregory giving the team a great blend across all parts of the field.

With VC Mitchell Park getting a multi-million dollar facelift with a new pavilion and changerooms, Boyanup Oval will be the home base for the Dons in 2024.   The venue has not seen SWFL matches played at the venue since Eaton played matches there while Glen Huon Reserve was given an upgrade.

Max Jetta Snr will take the reigns of the Reserves team, while highly experience Nigel Tuia will be the Colts Coach.  Max Jetta will remain as the Women’s Coach, who made finals in 2023.
