Boomers Down Magpies At Busselton

Eaton Boomers have accounted for Busselton on Saturday night at Sir Stewart Bovell Park, Busselton with a forty point victory, in round three of the SWFL.

The visitors started in a blaze of glory kicking two goals in the first three minutes, putting Busselton immediately on the back foot.  A late goal by Ethan Bowman brought the margin back to two points, but an even later goal by Aaron Jetta after a spectacular mark, had the Boomers up by seven points at the first break.

A strong mark by Brandon Jetta 15 metres out from goal should have put the Boomers further in front, but he hit the post, but the resultant kick in was marked by Aaron Jetta who converted from deep in the pocket.  Matthew Welburn for Busselton had an opportunity to close the gap after taking a good mark, running back with the flight of the ball, but he missed, with Eaton able to go into attack and goal.   Jed Kemp goaled soon after to keep the Magpies in touch, but two late goals to Brandon Jetta and Aaron Jetta with a great crumb and snap, had the Boomers twenty points in front at the main break.

Heath Ryder extended the Boomers advantage in the third kicking two goals at the one and three minute mark, effectively snuffing out a Busselton comeback.

To Busselton’s credit they didn’t give up, with Reegan Mrsich kicking three goals in the final quarter, to finish with an outstanding six goals for the match, while at the other end, the Boomers kicked a couple of spectacular goals to match Mrsich’s effort at the other end.

For Busselton, they will face another stiff test next Saturday against ladder leaders Collie Eagles, while Eaton Boomers will play Carey Park on Sunday, 6 May 2018 at Glen Huon Reserve.
