Boomers Must Defeat Panthers Saturday

Eaton Boomers mathematical, yet slim chances of making the finals, hinge on Saturday’s match against Carey Park at Glen Huon Reserve, which is the opening game of round 20 of the Dale Alcock Homes South West, SWFL Premiership Season.

The Boomers simply must win to have any chance of making the finals and need Bunbury to defeat Donnybrook on Sunday to remain in contention.  The draw against the Collie Eagles two weeks ago made their challenge for the final five much more difficult, and anything but a win on Saturday won’t be good enough.

Eaton are coming off of a loss in the last round with the Boomers losing to Bunbury by 47 points after trailing by just 16 at half time.  Meanwhile Carey Park held off Harvey Brunswick Leschenault by five points despite not kicking a goal after quarter time.   Combined both teams managed just seven goals, however with fine weather predicted the match should be a free flowing affair, with both teams having good midfields to feed both forward lines.

Brandon Jetta and Joel Houghton hold the key to the Boomers forward line with 41 goals between them this season, and both will be looking for big games up forward.  Carey Parks key is their defence and midfield with youngster Jack DiLallo being the Panthers leading goal scorer with just seven goals, highlighting their ability to stifle attacks without kicking big scores themselves.  The Red and Blues average just 42.8 points per match, with the League average being 60.89.

Despite being a low scoring team generally, Carey Park are more than capable of winning, already beating Busselton and Bunbury this season, so the Boomers won’t want to take the Panthers lightly.

GAME TIMES:  Colts – Forfeit, Reserves 11.40am, Women’s 1.30pm, League 3.00pm

Joel Houghton will be a key player for the Boomers on Saturday, who simply must win to remain in finals contention.
