Boomers Win With Goal After The Siren

Josh Bowe is the toast of Glen Huon, after kicking a goal after the final siren to give the home side victory in a thrilling finish over Carey Park on Saturday afternoon, in the opening game of round nine of the SWFL.

Bowe, one of the most experienced players in the competition, slotted the goal from 45 metres out at the Southern end of the venue, with chaotic scenes akin to winning a grand final following immediately after.

After defeating Harvey Brunswick Leschenault, the Boomers suffered a shock loss to bottom placed Collie in round eight, but bounced back in thrilling fashion to snatch victory, with three late goals, the third after the bell.

The Panthers held a narrow lead at quarter time, with the Boomers kicking three goals to one in the second term to lead by 11 points at the main break.  Carey Park kicked five goals in the third term to take back the lead and looked to have the match in their keeping until late goals to the Boomers set up the grandstand finish.

“It is great for our club, and for the players”, said Coach Chris Kinninmont after the match.  “I asked for a better effort (than the loss to Collie) and they stuck at it right to the end”.

The win gets the Boomers back off the bottom of the ladder, and if Augusta Margaret River defeat Bunbury on Sunday, Carey Park will drop to fifth place, such is the nature of the competition.
