Bulldogs Get The Points Against The Lions

In a crucial clash at Payne Park, Bunbury have taken the four points over Harvey Brunswick Leschenault in round three of the SWFL before a very big crowd.

The match was crucial for both teams, who were both yet to win a game, with both losing by less than a goal in the previous matches, and the match on Saturday was also close, though the home team were always in front during the contest.

On a day that wasn’t really conducive for forwards, they featured at both ends with Matt Martin kicking six goals for the Bulldogs, while Jarrod Humphries kicked four goals for the Lions.  The haul by Martin puts him back on top of the all time goal kicking tally for the SWFL, over-taking the legendary Kurnutt Thorne who kicked 565 goals between 1982 – 1996.

After a close opening term where Bunbury held sway by two points, a four goals to one second term saw the home team lead by 19 points at half time.  The Lions pulled the margin back to ten points at the final break, but the Bulldogs prevailed in a close match winning by 15 points.

Bunbury had just three goal kickers for the match, with Hayden Yarran kicking three goals to go with Martin’s six.

Jethro Barraclough played a good game for the Bulldogs, while Jarrod Humphries was again a stand-out for the Lions.

The Lions have the bye in round four, while Bunbury will travel to Collie to take on the Eagles under lights.
