Bulldogs Too Strong For Boomers

Bunbury proved too strong for Eaton in their round seventeen clash at PC Payne Park on Sunday afternoon, before a healthy crowd and in doing so solidified their fifth place standing on the ladder.

The opening term went the way of Bunbury, kicking four goals to one with the Bunbury midfield providing plenty of run.   Jesse Gribble and Dylan Heasman had plenty of possessions early as the Bulldogs led by 17 points.

The second quarter saw Bunbury extend the lead further as Joel Houghton started to dominate up forward, taking some strong marks, as the margin extended to 39 points at half time.

To Eaton’s credit they rallied in the third quarter, with both teams kicking four goals each, with Greg Humphries and Josh Bowe leading from the front with some excellent play, with Humphries ending the match with three goals.

The final term, Bunbury consolidated, with Joel Houghton kicking his seventh for the match, moving him to third on the seasons goal kicking ladder.  Houghton has now kicked fifteen goals in two weeks, and is a great forward option for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs would be pleased on a couple of fronts, kicking twenty goals, which rarely happens in modern football and the number of goal kickers, with the home side having eleven players kick a goal, giving the side plenty of options.  Paul Rinder rucked tirelessly all day, and along with Bowe and Humphries were amongst the best for Eaton.

Bunbury will now play Dunsborough at Payne Park in round eighteen.  In the corresponding fixture the match ended in a draw, while Eaton will play Harvey Brunswick Leschenault at Glen Huon Reserve, both matches scheduled for Sunday.
