Bulldogs Win Fifth Crown

It was a tight contest early, but Bunbury’s class shone through in the end, as the Bunbury Women’s team won the Tronox Women’s Grand Final by 41 points at Hands Memorial Oval on Saturday.

The opening quarter was tough and uncompromising, with Bunbury scoring first through Chloe Sheahen, which seemed to spur Donnybrook into action, with Courtney Zappara putting the Dons in front after converting a long range set shot, and then putting Donnybrook further in front when she goaled from the pocket.

Bunbury fought back in the second quarter keeping the Dons scoreless while kicking two goals of their own, leading by eight points at half time.  The third quarter was also tight, but a 50m penalty to Chloe Sheahen gave the Bulldogs breathing space.

The final quarter would see Bunbury flex their muscles and break the hearts of the Dons, as they piled on five goals to claim their fifth premiership in nine seasons.

Ebony Bilcich was outstanding and won the medal for being the best player on the ground.  Donnybrook were not disgraced in their first grand final, with Ella Smith and Kelly Polla amongst the best.
