Bulls Into Preliminary Final

The Harvey Bulls have kept their unblemished first semi final record in tact, when they accounted for Bunbury at Payne Park on Sunday afternoon, before more than 1700 fans.

The Bulls have played in three other First Semi Finals between 2015-2017 and won them all, with this being the fourth.

The Bulls started the match with a goal in the opening minute to John Bennell before Bunbury kicked two goals to lead at the first change, and it appeared the match was going to be a close, tough affair.

The second quarter belonged to the Bulls, keeping the Bulldogs goal-less as they missed opportunities which were converted at the opposite end by Harvey.  Michael and John Bennell both kicked good goals for the Bulls as they opened up a fifteen point half time advantage.

The third term would be one way traffic as the Bulls kicked five goals to one, with Bunbury’s backline under enormous pressure with Michael Bennell and Brad Holmes both kicking two goals for the quarter.

With the three quarter time margin being a game high 39 points, with was always going to be an uphill struggle for the Bunbury side, who did get an early last quarter goal courtesy of a 50 metre penalty, before John Bennell snapped his fourth.  A late goal to Hayden Yarran made the margin 35 points, as the Bulldogs were bundled out of the finals.

South Bunbury now await the Haryey Bulls in a Preliminary Final, with the Bulls looking to do what the club has not been able to do previously in the SWFL, make the Grand Final.  The Preliminary Final will be played next Sunday at 1.15pm.

Today’s official attendance of 1725 was the biggest crowd for a First Semi Final since 2011, with 2801 fans watching the two days of finals this weekend.
