Bunbury Claim Close Win

Bunbury have held off Eaton Boomers in the Qualifying Final at PC Payne Park on Sunday, in the first week of the Dale Alcock Homes Finals series, before a bumper crowd.

The Bulldogs got off to a great start, leading by 13 points at the first break, but the Boomers kicked four goals to one in the second quarter to take a four point lead at the main break.

Brett Peake kicked two third quarter goals as the home team kicked five for the quarter, to take a twenty point lead into the final change.  The Boomers dominated play in the last quarter but it took 13 minutes for them to kick the first goal of the quarter.  Wayward kicking in the closing stages allowed the Bulldogs to hold the lead, but a late goal narrowed the margin to four points, before the only goal to Bunbury in the final quarter sealed the deal and a nine point victory.

Bunbury will now play Donnybrook at VC Mitchell Park in a historic second semi final, the first ever at the Donnybrook venue, while Eaton Boomers will play at home, again for the very first time playing a first semi final against Augusta Margaret River at Glen Huon Reserve.
