Bunbury Overcome Slow Start To Beat Lions

Bunbury won the round five Tronox Women’s match on Sunday by forty points, overcoming a slow start at Brunswick Oval, when they defeated Harvey Brunswick Leschenault.

The Lions took the Bulldogs by surprise in the opening term, with Shelby Humphries kicking the opening goal inside the first three minutes to give the Lions the lead.   Bunbury had several opportunities in front of goal but could not capitalise, giving the Lions the lead at quarter time.

It was a tight second quarter with just the one goal kicked, with Daisy Rigby putting the Bulldogs in front at half time.

The second half saw the Bulldogs dominate, led by Sarina Tassone, Chantelle Hannagan and Kloe Bassett, giving the forwards plenty of opportunities.   Rigby would end up with four goals for the match, after kicking five the week before to be one of the best on the ground.  The Lions Maddison Flanagan and Claire Edwards played well, while Shelby Humphries booted both of the Lions goals.

In other matches, Busselton were too strong for Eaton, with Katie-Jayne Grieve kicking six goals, while both Harvey Bulls and Donnybrook started slowly before defeating South Bunbury and Collie Eagles respectively.

In round six, South Bunbury will play Busselton in a big clash for both teams, Carey Park and Harvey Brunswick Leschenault will be looking to win their second game of the season, in a match that also promises to be close.    Eaton will host Bunbury on Sunday, while Donnybrook, fresh off their first win of the season, will be looking to upset ladder-leaders Harvey Bulls at Boyanup.
