Bunbury’s Dominant Final Quarter Secures Win

It was tight for three quarters but eventually Bunbury got over the line in their round fourteen match at the Brunswick Showgrounds against Harvey Brunswick Leschenault on Saturday.

Dylan Heasman opened the scoring at the four minute mark, roving the ball off the pack and running into an open goal, while at the other end, the Lions had three set shots and missed all of them.  Another goal late in the quarter to the Bulldogs saw tempers flare, and several 50m penalties issued both ways as the visitors took a 13 point advantage into quarter time.

Cameron Pether received a lucky bounce in the goal square, gifting the Lions their opening goal in the first minute of the second term, in a match that was riddled with errors.  Dylan Heasman kicked his second courtesy of an advantage call, before Jonathan Fenwick goaled from the goal square courtesy of another 50m penalty.  In perfect weather, just five goals were kicked in the first half, with Bunbury leading by four points.

The Lions started brilliantly at the start of the third, with goals to Pether, Jarrod Humphries and Taine Williams, with the Lions hitting the lead, and looking dominant.   Bunbury fought back though, regaining the lead late in the quarter by seven points.

It would be the final term though that determined the contest, with Bunbury dominating possession, restricting the Lions to three behinds for the quarter, eventually running out winners by 25 points.

The midfield of Heasman, Jesse Gribble, Trae Field and Denholm King dominated, particularly in the second half, with Jonathan Fenwick and Jordan Baggetta played well for the Lions.
