Busselton Comfortable Winners

Busselton have comfortably defeated Carey Park on Saturday afternoon at Sir Stewart Bovell Park, in round twenty of the Dale Alcock Homes South West, South West Football League season.

The result ensures the Magpies finish at least second, and can still finish on top of the ladder should Bunbury lose to Dunsborough on Sunday, or South Bunbury in the final game of the season.

The Magpies started in a blaze of glory and had the first five scoring shots in the opening minutes before the Panthers really had a chance to put a passage of play together.  Brian Hughes kicked the Panthers first, but that was immediately answered by Liam Creighton who would kick two goals for the term along with Ryan Ekert.

Kelvin Lawrence kicked the opening goal of the second term for the Panthers, but the remainder of the quarter belonged to Busselton, kicking five for the term.

The Magpies led by forty eight points at half time, and extended that to sixty seven at three quarter time, as Carey Park were held to a behind for the quarter.

Brian Hughes kicked two goals in the final term for Carey Park along with a goal from Harry Jones to give some respectability to the scoreboard, but the damage was already done.   Liam Creighton put his hand up for mark of the year late in the last term, while Jackson Arbon did likewise for goal of the rear, running away from goal, deep in the pocket, and kicking truly from the outside of the boot.

The duo along with Mitch Tenardi played great games, gathering a multitude of possessions, while Ryan Ekert kicked five goals, several from outside 50m.

Busselton will finish the home and away season with a home match against the Collie Eagles, while Carey Park will finish at home against Harvey Brunswick Leschenault.
