Busselton Get Massive Scare, Before Moving To Women’s Grand Final

Busselton have survived a major scare and have come from nineteen points down, to defeat Harvey Brunswick Leschenault in the Tronox Women’s Second Semi Final, at PC Payne Park on Sunday.

The Lions got off to a perfect start, kicking two goals in the opening four minutes of the match, with Maya Goudard kicking the second goal from well outside the 50m arc, with the aide of a handy breeze.  Just prior to quarter time Emma Faulkner got hold of a loose ball in the goal square to kick the Lions third, stunning the Magpies, who for the first time this season were kept scoreless and under immense pressure.

Busselton needed to respond and did all of the early attacking in the second term, and after a couple of rushed behinds, Sophie Bennett got the Magpies first goal from the goal square.  A pin point pass from Beth Beckett found Sarah Lang 30m out, and when the competitions leading goal scorer converted, the margin was back to four points right on half time.

The Magpies were on the attack in the third term, eventually taking the lead when Sophie Proudfoot goaled, kicking a rare goal to the southern end.

Busselton would go into the final term with a three point lead, and the task for the Lions was made more difficult when Mia Van Kleef kicked the opening goal for Busselton.   A late goal to the Lions, saw the Magpies home by five points.

Despite being challenged Busselton survived a massive scare to advance to the Grand Final leaving the Lions to play Bunbury next Sunday in the Preliminary Final.
