Busselton Into Reserves Grand Final

Busselton have caused a huge upset when they defeated the previously unbeaten South Bunbury in the Solahart Reserves Second Semi Final, at Sir Stewart Bovell Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Magpies who finished third on the ladder after the home and away matches, have now defeated second placed Bunbury in a Qualifying Final and the Tigers who finished five games clear at the top of the ladder.

Busselton led the entire match with Dylan Patterson kicking the opener which was followed by a good goal to Josh Lee on the run.  The Tigers for the first time this season were kept goal-less at the Magpies led by 20 points at the first break.

South Bunbury hit back hard in the second quarter, with Guy Piggott converting a set shot from deep in the pocket, and when Riley Westra snapped truly late in the quarter the Tigers were back within nine points.

It was goal for goal in the third term with both midfields having periods of dominance and it was clear neither team was going to lie down in  a good contest.

When Jaice Pardi snapped a goal from beside the behind post early in the last, the margin was a game high twenty three points, and the Tigers were left to play catch up through the final quarter.  Goals to Griffin Russell and Connor Valli in quick succession gave the Tigers a sniff of victory, but the Busselton defence held sway through the final six minutes.

Busselton now move to the Grand Final, while South Bunbury will move to next weekends Preliminary Final at Kelly Park, where they will play either Bunbury or Augusta Margaret River who play in tomorrows First Semi Final.
