Busselton Up To The Challenge

Busselton went into their top of the table, round fifteen clash undefeated against Donnybrook, and at the end of the match, they remained undefeated, defeating the Dons by 31 points.

For the first time this season, Busselton trailed at three quarter time, as Donnybrook took the match right up to Busselton before a big crowd at Sir Stewart Bovell Park.

Liam Creighton kicked two goals for the Magpies

The Dons applied plenty of early pressure to Busselton and led by eight points at quarter time, and still held a three point lead at half time, but some inaccurate kicking by the Dons kept the Magpies in the match, missing some easy shots at goal.

The Magpies kicked an early goal in the third to take the lead with Chris Atthowe kicking a rare goal, as the visitors again hit the front.  The two teams traded goals with Zac Trigwell putting Donnybrook back in front again after, Busselton answered Atthowes goal.  The Dons led by a point at the final change, and after three tight quarters the match looked destined for a thrilling finish.

The final quarter belonged to the Magpies, kicking five unanswered goals with Dylan Patterson kicking his third goal, extending Busselton’s margin to 14 points.  When Taylor Bovell kicked truly shortly after the home fans were delirious, with Liam Creighton ensuring victory when he kicked his second goal, with Busselton winning by 31 points.

Zac Pethybridge and Mitch Tenardi had outstanding games for Busselton, while Archer Coates played a great game for the Dons, who took it right up to Busselton for three quarters, but were not able to finish the match off.

The Dons will host the Lions in round sixteen, while Busselton will have another home match, with Bunbury their next opponent.
