Collie And South Bunbury Back In The Women’s Competition

Saturday was a momentous day, as Collie Eagles and South Bunbury played off in the opening round of the Optus Women’s Competition.

Both clubs have been in the competition previously, with the Collie Eagles playing between 2018 and 2020, while South Bunbury return after the well publicised withdrawal from the competition last year.

With both teams back in the competition, the SWFL now has ten Women’s teams, as the competition enters its seventh season.  Both teams are effectively brand new, with many players in the Collie team brand new to the sport, while South Bunbury have had many Juniors make the move to seniors, or have had players come from other clubs.

Despite not scoring the Collie Women’s team showed plenty of tenacity and fight against the Tigers who would win by 19 points.

Collie will play Harvey Bulls on Sunday in Harvey, while South Bunbury will have the bye, while the men play Augusta Margaret River.
