Collie Come Back From The Dead In Elimination Final Thriller

Collie Eagles have produced a stunning final quarter comeback, to win today’s Dale Alcock Homes South West, SWFL Elimination Final, at the Collie Recreation Ground.

In very windy conditions, the game was tight and close, with the Eaton Boomers leading by five points at the first break, with the Eagles leading by two points at half time.  Between the two teams they had kicked 6 goals 14 behinds, with scoring difficult.

The game opened up a little more in the third term, with the Boomers kicking three goals to the home teams three behinds, to have a very handy 16 point advantage at the final break.

Before a big home crowd, the crowd were silenced further as the Boomers kicked the first goal of the final term, and seemingly had the game in their keeping, leading by as much as 23 points at the eight minute mark of the last quarter.

In the space of five minutes the home team and crowd came to life, kicking four goals to level the scores.  The Boomers again answered, before a freak goal to Collie, which bounced around an Eaton defender in the goal square, before bouncing through the major opening, had scores level again at the eighteen minute mark.  Two further goals to Collie saw the home team amass seven last quarter goals to win by 13 points, in a pulsating Elimination Final.

Joel Houghton was one of Collie’s best and kicked four goals, including a pivotal goal in the final term, while Declan Jackson played a great game.  Tyson Phillips was a strong contributor for Eaton, who now bow out of the finals race after being the 2019 runner-ups.
