Collie Eagles Cause Massive Upset

Collie have caused the first massive upset of the 2024, Dale Alcock Homes South West premiership season, when they defeated Carey Park on Saturday afternoon at the Collie Recreation Ground.

The Eagles led all day, but it could be argued the Panthers lost the match due to woeful kicking, kicking just four goals from 23 shots.

Collie kicked five of their seven goals in the first quarter in a stunning opening term, leading by twenty points.

The Panthers had eight scoring shots in the second quarter, converting just one of them, while keeping Collie to two behinds, with the Eagles still leading by nine points.  The Panthers had the majority of the play but simply couldn’t covert in front of goals.

The trend continued in the third term, with the visitors notching up a further five behinds, but a clutch goal late in the term gave the home side a two goal advantage, with Carey Park to come home with the breeze.

Carey Park again dominated the quarter but again continued to kick behinds, in one of the most lopsided scores seen in the SWFL in many years.  Robert Chitty kicked his second goal of the match, and the most crucial of the match, giving the Eagles a two goal advantage.  A late goal to the Panthers set up a thrilling finish, but the siren would sound sending the locals into raptures.

The win elevates Collie to eighth place and are now one of six teams on 4 points going into tomorrows fixtures, while Carey Park have dropped to fifth.
