Collie Send Dons Out Of Finals

The Collie Eagles have caused a stunning upset at VC Mitchell Park on Sunday afternoon, defeating Donnybrook by a solitary point, in round nineteen of the Dale Alcock Homes South West, South West Football League season.

Donnybrooks season came down to one point from potentially making finals, with a draw enough for them to draw level with Harvey Brunswick Leschenault in the final round should they have beaten Busselton, and the Lions lost to South Bunbury.  But all of that amounted to naught when Collie won a thrilling match, with the Eagles leading most of the day.

Scores were level at the twenty minute mark of the final term, with the Dons trailing by as much as fifteen points at the ten minute mark and appeared to have the momentum.  A behind to the Eagles three minutes into time on set up a thrilling final four minutes, where both sides had opportunities to win the match, but in the end the Eagles hung on, bundling the Dons out of the finals race.

Collie have not defeated Donnybrook since 2021, ending a seven game losing streak.

The match was close all day, with just twelve goals kicked for the match.  Donnybrook led by two points at quarter time, Collie by the same margin at half time, the Eagles by eight points at three quarter time, before winning by one.

Donnybrook will finish the season against Busselton next Saturday night, while Collie can further shape the finals when they play Carey Park on Saturday afternoon.  The victory has also put Collie with one round to go into eighth place on the ladder, their highest ladder position since 2021 when they finished sixth.
