Collie Eagles will host Bunbury on Saturday evening under lights, with the Eagles desperate to get their first win on the board in round four of the Dale Alcock Homes South West, SWFL season.
The Eagles have been competitive but haven’t been able to break through with a good second half against South Bunbury, a good first half against Harvey Bulls, while last Sunday the Eagles battled to the very end before going down to Carey Park by 43 points.
Bunbury have had a protracted start to the season, with a narrow loss to Carey Park in the opening round, followed by two weekends off, while last Saturday they overcome a dogged Harvey Brunswick Leschenault to win by 15 points.
Jayce Fontana and Robert Chitty along with Luke Abbott have been amongst Collie’s best, and their defence has been under enormous pressure in the opening weeks of the season, and for the most part has stood up well. It will be tested again on Saturday evening with Matt Martin kicking six goals against the Lions, while Hayden Yarran and Joel Houghton (both former Collie players) will also need to have their impact curbed if Collie are to stay in touch with the Bulldogs.
Jethro Barraclough, Denholm King and Dylan Heasman have all been playing well for the Bulldogs, and Collie’s midfield will need to shut them down to stop the supply of ball to the forwards.
Bunbury need to win to stay in touch with the top six, who could all be on three wins at the end of the round, while Collie are searching for their opening win of the season in all grades.
