There has been no bigger clash in recent times for both South Bunbury and Carey Park, when the two sides meet in the opening game of round eighteen, of the Dale Alcock Homes South West, South West Football League season on Saturday at Hands Memorial Oval.
With just four rounds of home and away football remaining, South Bunbury who seemingly had third place sewn up just a few weeks ago, find themselves now in fifth place, just one game ahead of arch rivals Carey Park, who are sixth. Should the Panthers defeat South Bunbury, it will not only end a five game losing streak against the Tigers, it will put Carey Park on equal points as the defending premiers, separated just by percentage. Other teams, including Donnybrook and Augusta Margaret River will also be hoping for a Carey Park victory, which would solidify the Dons fourth spot, while keeping the Hawks alive.
But when the Tigers are up against it, they generally play great football, and despite recent losses to Harvey Brunswick Leschenault and Donnybrook, the Tigers will fancy their chances against Carey Park who are coming off the bye, with their most recent match in round sixteen where they convincingly defeated Augusta Margaret River.
With fine weather forecast there can be no excuses, and a big crowd expected. With the Panthers having matches against Eaton, Busselton and Harvey Brunswick Leschenault to finish the home and away season off, a win on Saturday is paramount. South Bunbury will finish with Collie (away), Harvey Bulls (home) and Bunbury (home) to finish.
The match is also the White Ribbon Match, supported by Alcoa, highlight domestic violence against Women and Children.
