Crowds Flock To Opening Round Of The Season

The opening round of the Dale Alcock Homes South West, SWFL season has seen just under 3700 people attend the football, despite some unfavourable weather across the weekend.

It was evident early that a big crowd was going to attend Kelly Park, with long lines waiting to get in as the Colts fixture started.  The attendance figure of 859, was almost 200 more than the same match twelve months ago.

The Harvey Fresh Cup attracted 755 today to watch Harvey defeat the Lions, while at VC Mitchell Park, almost the identical number (747) watched the Dons dismantle Eaton.  The Southern Derby also attracted a big crowd with 709 people in attendance, while the smallest crowd at Collie (613) was both almost double that of the corresponding fixture last season, and also the venue that had the worst weather, with lightning surrounding the oval throughout the League fixture.  All venues exceeded last years home attendance average significantly.

The rounds attendance figure is almost 300 more than last season’s record.

Round two is also likely to see a large gathering, particularly at the Dunsborough Playing Fields, where Dunsborough are scheduled to play their opening home League game against Donnybrook.

Last years Grand Final crowd was similar to the opening round of the seasons attendance number.
