Donnybrook have defeated Harvey Bulls at the Harvey Oval on Sunday in atrocious conditions, in round seventeen of the Dale Alcock Homes South West, SWFL Premiership Season.
Twenty five millimetres of rain fell on the oval over night, and a further twenty eight millimetres fell on the ground during Saturday, turning the Harvey Oval into a lake, one which saw Donnybrook keep the home side scoreless. It is the first time a team has failed to score in a League match, with the previous record being held by Boyanup Capel Dardanup (now Eaton) on three occasions kicking one behind, the last of those in 1977.
The Dons needed to win the contest to keep their finals chances alive, and despite the conditions, they amassed five goals in the opening fifteen minutes, with Jeff Smith kicking three goals and Cooper Clarke-Dehring kicking two.
Clarke-Dehring was taken off the ground soon after and taken to hospital after a bone jarring contest.
Ben Howlett was outstanding in the conditions, while Jeff Smith managed four goals in the first half, before sitting out the second half, having already played in the Reserves.
In round eighteen Harvey Bulls head to Gloucester Park to play Augusta Margaret River, while Donnybrook will play Busselton at Boyanup Oval, with the Magpies needing to win if they are to play finals in 2024.
