Donnybrook Win At Home

Donnybrook have defeated Bunbury at VC Mitchell Park on Sunday, and in doing so have kept their chances alive of finishing second on the ladder and hosting a home final.

After Carey Park won on Saturday evening it was imperative for the Dons to win to have an opportunity to finish second on the ladder, which is still a real possibility having played on less game than the Panthers.

Bunbury likewise were also looking to take the four points to keep the pressure on South Bunbury who sit fourth on the ladder.

In an entertaining opening term, in perfect weather before a healthy crowd, both teams kicked three goals apiece.

Donnybrook took control of the match in the second quarter kicking five goals to two, to open up a twenty two point lead at half time.

The Dons midfield got on top, providing plenty of forward opportunities, with Ben Howlett, Chris Attowe, Scott Tuia and Luke Dale getting plenty of possessions.  Tuia was particularly instrumental in the Dons victory and was awareded the Peter Betti Medal for best on ground.

Scott Tuia played a great game and was awarded the Peter Betti Medal for best on ground.

The Dons remain a game behind Carey Park with a game in hand over the Panthers and have a much healthier percentage.  Carey Park have matches against Eaton and Harvey Bulls to finish their home and away campaign, which would mean Donnybrook would need to defeat South Bunbury at Hands Oval, Collie Eagles in Collie and Augusta Margaret River at VC Mitchell Park to finish second assuming the Panthers win both.   If the Don’s lose to South Bunbury, they will then have to hope South Bunbury lose to either Bunbury or HBL to keep third place and the double chance.

For Bunbury to finish fourth and to host a final, they must beat South Bunbury in round twenty one, and hope that Donnybrook also beat South Bunbury, while also beating AMR and Harvey Bulls in what is turning out to be another amazing finish to the season.
