Donnybrook Win Peter Betti Cup

Donnybrook won the Peter Betti Cup with a solid twelve point win over Bunbury at VC Mitchell Park on Sunday afternoon, in round sixteen of the Dale Alcock Homes South West, South West Football League season.

Both sides had plenty to play for, with the Dons potentially dropping out of the five with a heavy loss.  The Dons started brilliantly, goaling in the opening minute, which answered almost immediately by Bunbury, but the home side would kick the last three goals of the term to lead by twenty points.

It would be goal for goal in the second quarter, with the skills belying the conditions, with the Dons leading by 18 points at half time.

Donnybrook would kick the first two goals of the third term, opening up a thirty point lead, but Bunbury would fight back again, with both sides again kicking three goals each for the term.   The quarter would see some ferocious tackling, as both sides searched for the upper hand.

The Bulldogs would narrow the margin to thirteen points early in the last, but the Dons would reply soon after, and despite some late shots on goal, the home side would prevail by twelve points.

Clayton Giblett played a great game for the Dons, as did Ben Frazer, while Trae Field was outstanding for Bunbury, with Haydn Busher also a strong contributor.

The win puts Donnybrook back into fourth place, and a Sunday showdown in round seventeen with Carey Park on Sunday.  Bunbury remain third on the ladder, and will head to Gloucester Park on Saturday to play the Hawks.
