Donnybrook have recorded an emphatic victory over Eaton at VC Mitchell Park on Sunday, recording an eighty one point victory to claim the Peter Butcher Cup for the first time, before a big crowd.
The Boomers started well kicking two goals in the opening six minutes via Greg Humphries and Brandon Pegler, and looked impressive, but alas for Boomers fans, it went down hill very quickly after that point. Shane Cristaldi kicked a good goal on the run and when Zac Trigwell took a pack mark and duly converted, the Dons hit the front and never looked back. Brendan Craig was trying hard in defence for the Boomers, but it kept coming into the Dons forward line at a rapid rate, with Sean Lynch kicking his first of the afternoon just before the quarter time siren.
The Boomers failed to score in the second quarter, as Sam Perkusich kicked an early goal to extend the margin, which then saw three more goals in quick succession, as the Dons went to half time with a 35 point lead, and seven unanswered goals.
After the resumption Smith goaled again, with a further goal to follow, making it nine straight goals for the home team. Brent Piercey eventually kicked the third goal for the Boomers, two quarters and and thirteen minutes apart. Humphries would kick his second goal from long range on the sound of three quarter time, but the margin had ballooned to 41 points.
The visitors again failed to score in the final term, and they can’t thank their lucky stars that Donnybrook kicked five goals ten behinds for the quarter, and not ten goals five behinds, as it was an avalanche of scoring to the town end in the final term. Ben Frazers goal was a standout, evading three defenders to goal on the run.
The Dons will now face Dunsborough in Dunsborough on Sunday, while Eaton will get no reprieve when they face Busselton in Busselton on Saturday.
