Dons Move Back To Second

Donnybrook have moved back to second place on the ladder, after accounting for Harvey Brunswick Leschenault in a hard fought contest at VC Mitchell Park on Sunday afternoon.

The round sixteen contest would see the home side win by 48 points in perfect weather conditions, before a healthy crowd,

The Dons started well, but the Lions soon started getting possession of the ball and kicked goals of their own in an entertaining first quarter, with Donnybrook leading by 14 points.

Harvey Brunswick Leschenault who went into the match as underdogs, played an excellent second quarter with Zac Piper a focal point up forward, ultimately kicking five goals for the match, as the deficit at half time was reduced to ten points.

The Dons though were outstanding in the third term, keeping the visitors goal-less, kicking six goals for the term, with Jeff Smith taking some strong marks, while Hamish Hutton and Scott Tuia were also giving the Lions back-line a few headaches, as the margin blew out to a game high 47 points.

Both teams kicked four goals in the final term.

Ben Howlett was instrumental in the Dons victory, gaining plenty of possessions through the middle of the ground, while Bradman May and Luke Dale also gathered plenty of the football.   Jeff Smith kicked four goals to move his personal tally to 48 for the season, as the Dons moved back to second place on the ladder after Carey Park defeated South Bunbury.

The Lions showed plenty for three quarters, with just the third quarter letting them down, with Jaydon Wilson playing well in the ruck, Jordan Baggetta and Connor Carbone gained plenty of possessions, and Zac Pipers five goals more than double his goal tally for the season.

The Lions will host Augusta Margaret River next Saturday, while Donnybrook will travel to Harvey to take on the Harvey Bulls in a match that the Bulls simply have to win, as do the Dons if they wish to hold on to second place on the ladder.
