Dons Stun Eagles

The unpredictable nature of the 2018 SWFL Season continued on Saturday afternoon at the Collie Recreation Ground, when the undefeated Collie Eagles were comprehensively dismantled by Donnybrook.

The Dons, who only a week previous were soundly beaten by Augusta Margaret River, stunned the Eagles with a seven goal first term, to lead by 38 points.

Many interested onlookers were awaiting an Eagles fightback, but for what maybe the first time in their existence, the home team were held scoreless in the second term as the Dons opened the margin to 51 points at half time.

The match went to a game high 64 points at three quarter time, before the Eagles won the final quarter to suffer a 53 point loss at home.

Sam Lowrie was dominant up forward for the Dons, kicking five goals, with Brad Epis dominating across the day.  Blair Malatesta was the only Eagles player to kick more than one goal, with Matt Blackford Collie’s best.

Donnybrook will travel to headquarters next Sunday to take on South Bunbury who won a thriller on Saturday night, while the Eagles will also be on the road, heading to Busselton to take on the Magpies, who were highly competitive against Eaton Boomers.
