Dons Take The Points At Gloucester Park

Donnybrook have defeated Augusta Margaret River at Gloucester Park on Sunday afternoon, in the opening round of the Dale Alcock Homes South West Premiership season.

The Dons would lead almost all day, extending their winning streak over the Hawks to three, finishing the match with a  flurry of goals.

It took seven minutes for the opening goal of the match with Kel Evans putting the home side in front.   That was short lived as Ben Frazer immediately replied with a great snap from 30m out.  Harvey Fisher would put the Hawks back in front with a running goal from the pocket before Brandon Jetta put his first goal on the board for the Dons, giving the visitors the lead back yet again.   Jetta would kick another, as the Dons went to quarter time with a ten point lead.

The Dons scored first in the second term to extend the margin to fifteen points, before quick goals to McMahon and Kaspa Donovan, reduced the margin to three points.  Another Donnybrook goal was immediately answered again by McMahon, with nothing separating the teams.  Two late goals to the Dons gave the visitors a fifteen point advantage at the main break.

A tight third term saw the Hawks kick the opening goal, again narrowing the margin to eight points, but a Ben Frazer goal made the margin two goals at the final break.

With the match on the line, warm weather contributed to a fiery period where tempers frayed in the pocket, midway through the last quarter.   Meanwhile, Brandon Jetta was marking everything in the forward line, kicking three goals in the final term as the Dons ran away with the win by 38 points.

The Dons have the bye in round two, while the Hawks will travel to Hands Oval to play South Bunbury who easily accounted for Dunsborough.
