Eagles Win At Home

Collie Eagles have defeated Dunsborough at the Collie Recreation Ground on Saturday afternoon, to record their first win at home in over a year.

It has been 371 days since Collie last recorded a win at home, on that occasion they defeated Carey Park by eight points in the Indigenous Match.

The Eagles kicked the opening goal of the match and looked sharp, before Dunsborough hit back, kicking the next four goals with Nic Reid looking particularly threating up forward, as the Sharks took a 17 point lead into the first break.

In a game of momentum, the Eagles hit back again in the second quarter kicking the first three goals, as Cameron Davidson started to dominate on his way to a career high six goals for the Eagles.  Scores were level at 4.3 (27) before the Sharks kicked away again only for the Eagles to draw within a point at half time.  In a free flowing match both midfields were getting plenty of possessions, with Adam Bignell playing well as was Jack Byrne for Dunsborough.

The third term which so many times has been the Eagles Achilles heals in 2023, was the quarter that won them the match, kicking five goals to one, with Cameron Davidson and Jayce Fontana providing plenty of headaches for the Sharks.

The Eagles had to with-stand a fightback from the Sharks, but Collie would prevail by 19 points.

It was a big day for the Eagles who had a major Breast Cancer Fundraiser, and they also celebrated as the Collie Women’s team also were victorious to commence the day, in a low scoring thriller.

Collie, as a result of Eaton losing to Augusta Margaret River, have moved off the bottom of the ladder by 1% and are now just two points behind Dunsborough.  Collie will next play Augusta Margaret River in round eighteen (bye in round seventeen), while Dunsborough will head to Payne Park to play Bunbury, who they drew with earlier in the season.
