Genuine Blockbuster At Hands Oval On Sunday

Two Bunbury teams and just one loss between them heading into round five indicates a big crowd will be in attendance on Sunday, when South Bunbury host Carey Park in a massive match at Hands Oval.

Carey Park it would be fair to say have exceeded expectations, having defeated Bunbury in the opening round in a thriller by three points, survived a desperate finish in round two, defeating the Lions by two points, before defeating Collie in round three by 43 points.  It would be their round four victory though against the reigning premiers, which indicated to all that the Panthers were going to be a significant threat in 2023, when they defeated the Hawks by 27 points, with a devastating third quarter kicking seven goals.

South Bunbury have been winning, but not as convincingly with a 38 point win against Collie, before losing to the Hawks by eleven points in round two.  The Tigers took until the fourth quarter to shake of the Boomers in round three, while they only hit the front against the Sharks late in the third quarter before winning by 39 points last Sunday.

Sunday’s contest promises plenty, with both teams having players in good form, with Leigh Kohlmann in outstanding form for the Tigers, booting 18 goals in four rounds, including eight last week in a single handed performance.   Carey Park have had a spread of goal kickers up forward, with youngster, Jack DiLallo leading the way with seven goals.

The midfield battle with be intriguing with Captain, Kevin Chitty playing well for the Tigers, while Harley Sparks has had arguably three best on ground performances in a row and certainly a player the Tigers will need to negate.

All indications suggest this will be a great match, with a win to Carey Park putting a gap of two games on most teams in the competition, while a win to South Bunbury will see them leap frog Carey Park who would drop to third at the end of the round.
