Hawks Cause Panthers Payne!

Augusta Margaret River defeated Carey Park in a thriller at Kelly Park on Sunday, before a very disappointing crowd by six points, in the round fourteen fixture of the SWFL.

In a low scoring affair, the Hawks would lead by seven points at quarter time and by seventeen points at half time.  The margin at the final break would be 21 points, before the Panthers staged a great fight back in the final stanza.

Belying their position at the base of the ladder, Carey Park kicked the opening goals of the final quarter, which quickly signified a thrilling finish was on the cards.  The Hawks kicked nine goals for the match, eight of them were kicked by the Payne’s!  Steven Payne kicked three goals, as did Jacob, while Mitchell kicked two in the six point win.  It would be a case of so close but yet so far for the home side who remain win-less, just with two points after a draw earlier in the season.

Fabian Hart and Jamahl Mulholland played excellent games for Carey Park, while the ever reliable Lincoln Adams was one of the best for the victors.

The narrow win, and with other results, now has Augusta Margaret River in the five for the first time since round one, and the third team to occupy fifth place in three weeks.  They will host Collie Eagles this Saturday in a day game, while Carey Park will again be at home when they take on Donnybrook, who need to win to keep their final five chances alive, with the match scheduled for this Sunday.
