Augusta Margaret River have caused the first upset of the finals series, when they defeated Harvey Brunswick Leschenault in the Solahart Reserves Elimination Final.
The Hawks who snuck into the finals by one percent after a big win over Donnybrook last week. started slowly, trailing the Lions by nine points at quarter time. The margin extended further when Jarrad Watson goaled from long range, before the Hawks started to get into the match. Henry Shawcross kicked a great goal on the run, before Nic Broad kicked two goals in quick succession, the second of which after a strong mark put the Hawks in front. Grant Garstone converted his first of the afternoon just before the half time siren, as the Hawks created an eleven point lead at half time.
Shannon Sabourne got the Lions within five points early in the third term, but after that the Hawks dominated. Archie Smith kicked an excellent drinnle goal from deep in the pocket to put the Hawks nineteen points up at the final change, a margin which would prove insurmountable for the Lions.
The final term was all one way traffic, with a goal to Grant Garstone, followed by two goals to Byron George and a further two to Banjo Watkins saw the Hawks convincing winners by 42 points. The Hawks will advance to a first semi final, and will play the loser of the Qualifying Final, being Bunbury or Busselton.
