Hawks Defeat Dunsborough In The Wet

The newest rivalry in the SWFL between Dunsborough and Augusta Margaret River was put to the test at the Dunsborough Playing Fields on Sunday afternoon in horrendous weather conditions, which saw the two teams manage just seven goals between them.

With persistent rain falling, the Hawks got the better of the opening term, without putting the Sharks to the sword, leading by nine points at quarter time, with Dunsborough kept scoreless.

Mitch Payne kicked two quick goals as the Hawks looked the goods in the wet conditions, before the Sharks fought back with goals to Cameron Dean, Pat McGinnity and Shayne Zanetti, as the home team narrowed the margin to three points at half time.

The second half saw just one goal, giving a great indication of the conditions, with Payne kicking his fourth, and in a rare occurrence, he would finish as the only goal scorer for the Hawks.  The Sharks finished with a handy breeze but managed just a behind, as the Hawks got the crucial four points to stay in touch with the top five.

The Hawks will next face Donnybrook on Saturday, while the Sharks will remain at home and will face Eaton next Sunday.
