Hawks Flex Muscle In Final Quarter Blitz

It was close and tight for three quarters at Harvey Oval, but eventually Augusta Margaret River got the better of the Harvey Bulls to win by 37 points, in the final game of round nineteen of the Dale Alcock Homes South West, SWFL Premiership season.

The day was fine, but the ground was wet after heavy rain on Saturday, which saw scoring not a free flowing as it may well have been.

The Hawks got the early advantage in the top five contest, keeping the Bulls scoreless, but that was only temporary as the Bulls fought back hard in the second quarter, and when Michael Bennell kicked his second goal of the term, the Bulls had hit the front.

Scoring freed up somewhat in the third quarter with the Hawks assuming the lead again to take a ten point advantage into the final quarter.  Five final quarter goals would be too much for the Bulls though and eventually they would be defeated by 37 points.

Harry Taylor kicked four goals for the Hawks and Mitch Gerrans managed three, while Jordan Veitch again figured amongst the best.  Michael Bennell booted four and Brad Holmes the remaining two goals for the Bulls.

The Hawks will now play South Bunbury on Saturday in a top of the table clash, which may well decide top spot and the team that will automatically play in the Second Semi Final.  Both teams have a bye and Bunbury to play in the remain weeks, making this clash absolutely crucial. If the Tigers win, they will finish on top, if the Hawks win, potentially percentage will determine the result.  For the Bulls, there is literally one score between them and Donnybrook on percentage, with the Bulls to have the bye, Carey Park and Busselton (both away) to finish the season.  Donnybrook their main rival for fifth place have Bunbury, the bye and Carey Park (home) to round out their campaign.  Both teams would be favoured to beat Carey Park, and less favoured to beat Busselton and Bunbury respectively, making percentage the key difference of which there is currently 0.35.
