Humphries Outstanding As Eaton Defeat Collie

Eaton have defeated Collie on Sunday afternoon at Glen Huon Reserve in very wet conditions, in the final game of round fourteen of the Dale Alcock Homes South West, SWFL premiership season.

More than 30mm of rain fell on the oval from 9am, leaving pools of water, and an indication that scoring would be difficult.

Eaton got the better of the early going to open up a two goal lead, before Jayce Fontana narrowed the margin, kicking a good goal for the Eagles.   Almost immediately, Greg Humphries kicked a great goal for the Boomers, who went to quarter time with a fourteen point lead.

Stephen Kane would kick a good goal for Eaton to extend their advantage, only for Collie to kick an excellent team goal, transferring the ball from one end to to the other.   Another to Collie reduced the margin to 14 points, but Humphries produced another good goal, giving the home side a 19 point margin at the main break, which was going to be hard to peg back in the conditions.

The Boomers set up their win in the third term kicking four goals to one, with Greg Humphries capping off a great game, kicking his third of the match in the final term as the Boomers won by 33 points.   Humphries was everywhere and relished the conditions, while Paul Rinder dominated the ruck contest and did a tower of work around the ground, also kicking three goals.    Jack Davidson was amongst Collie’s best, while Jayce Fontana kicked three goals for the Eagles.

The Boomers will now face Harvey Bulls on Sunday, while Collie Eagles host South Bunbury, also on Sunday.
