It All Comes Down To This!

After 110 Home and Away matches and five finals, we get to the Grand Final of the Dale Alcock Homes South West, SWFL Premiership season, with Busselton to play Carey Park in the 2023 Grand Final at Payne Park.

Busselton who have lost one game for the season, which was to Carey Park, will go in as favorites to take the Premiership, but standing in their way is Carey Park who haven’t been in a finals series, let alone a Grand Final in 2015.

In 2015, the Panthers played in the Grand Final, and it just so happened to be Busselton.  Busselton would win the Premiership by 45 points.

Busselton didn’t play in finals for four years, next appearing in the final five in 2020 at the start of the Covid years.  The Magpies would go on to feature in the Grand Final, but would fall short by five points. They made the 2021 Grand Final as well, but would fall to Augusta Margaret River by 40 points, while last season, Harvey Bulls eliminated Busselton in the Elimination Final.

Many of those players will have played in those grand finals, and will know the hurt associated with losing, and will be hoping to rectify that today.   Carey Park conversely have been in the finals wilderness, and will go into the Grand Final with very little Grand Final experience.

Both teams are in good form, Busselton will be rested after the week off while the Panthers youth and exuberance will be a factor, that only the result will be able to measure at 5.15pm this afternoon.

The two teams haven’t played each other in the finals series, and head to head in home and away matches, stands at one each.  They have played each other twice before in Grand Finals, in 2015 and 1963, with Busselton winning in 2015, while Carey Park were successful 60 years ago.

It has all the hallmarks of a close, exciting and tough grand final, but there can only be one winner –  it may come at the end of extra time.  What a way to finish a great season!
