The Eaton Boomers have barnstormed their way back into contention to play finals in the Dale Alcock Homes SW, SWFL Premiership season, courtesy of two stunning victories in the last two rounds, and on Saturday, they need one more victory to put themselves in with a chance to make it a reality.
Despite being a team game, it has been two individual pieces of brilliance by Joel Houghton that has got the Boomers into this position, kicking almost identical goals at the Northern end of Glen Huon Reserve in consecutive weeks to put his team in front in the dying stages of the match.
He will be called upon again this Saturday, this time at Brunswick Oval, with the Boomers simply needing to win and then hope that the Bulls lose to Busselton, in Busselton, later in the evening to make finals from the most unlikely of positions a month ago.
However, the Harvey Brunswick Leschenault team won’t make it easy for them. The Lions won the last encounter by two points, and played well last week against Collie Eagles. The last time the two teams met, Jarrod Humphries starred, kicking seven goals in a brilliant individual performance, and that sort of effort may be what is required this Saturday to get the Lions home. If they do win, the roar from Donnybrook will be heard, as that will keep their chances of playing finals alive – an Eaton victory spells season over for the Dons.
Jacob Dragovich, Mitchell Kings and Riley Pokler have been playing consistently good football and will be some of the players the Lions will need to shut down. Brayden Prentice, Reid Kinninmont and Ben Ablett, likewise for the Lions have been in good form and will need plenty of the ball on their home deck to stop the run and influence of the Boomers.
With so much riding on the game for multiple teams, this match is a must watch on Saturday.
