Late Goal Sees Tigers Home

South Bunbury have won their opening match in the Tronox Women’s Competition, defeating Dunsborough by three points, leading for just the final four minutes of the match.

Dunsborough started the match brilliantly putting some excellent passages of play together, but were thwarted by the Tigers defence.  Eventually the Sharks were able to penetrate the defence, with Claudia Duane kicking the opening goal after eleven minutes.  Alyssa Ward would give the Sharks reward for effort, kicking the teams second goals just before the quarter time siren.

The second quarter was a dour affair in warm conditions, with neither team able to find the major opening, with the Sharks leading by eleven points at half time.

Dunsborough would do all the attacking in the first half of the third quarter, but couldn’t find the goals, with Alyssa Bain eventually on the end of a coast to coast play by the Tigers, who reduced the margin to six points at three quarter time.

The final term belonged to the Tigers, but they were denied time and time again by the Sharks defence, who for ten minutes defied all of the attacking moves from the Tigers.  But after two quick behinds which narrowed the margin to four points, it would be Nateisha Roberts who would put the Tigers in front for the first time in the match, with just four minutes remaining, a lead they held to the siren, winning by three points.
