Harvey Brunswick Leschenault have defeated Bunbury for the first time ever in the Tronox Women’s competition on Saturday afternoon, in round four of the South West Football League.
Going into the match, the Lions had lost to Bunbury on sixteen straight occassions, with their highest ever score being two goals. On Saturday they not only scored their highest score, but defeated the reigning premiers by twenty points.

In a tight opening term, Emma Faulkner would kick the opening goal, but moments later Caitlin Ward replied for Bunbury as the Lions went into quarter time two points in front.
The second quarter was dominated by the Lions, but the Bunbury defence was up to the task, repelling attack after attack from the Lions. Eventually Zoe Roberts broke through, kicking a good goal to extend the Lions lead to eight points, and a minute from half time, Logan Cristaldi also goaled, to give the Lions a fourteen point lead at half time.
The third quarter saw neither team score as Bunbury tried to get back into the match, but the Lions repelled all of Bunbury’s attacking moves.
The final quarter was much like the third, until Cassandra Piper goaled from twenty metres out to extend the margin to a match winning twenty points. The Lions celebrated Trinity Brown’s 100th game, with Emma Angi and Latisha Hough playing good games.
