Lions First Into Grand Final

Harvey Brunswick Leschenault are the first team into the 2017 Dale Alcock Homes, SWFL Grand Final, after downing Bunbury today at PC Payne Park before a bumper crowd.

Bunbury started well against the breeze, as the Lions for the second week in a row started with a spate of behinds. The Bulldogs would lead by two points at the first break.

The Lions set up their victory in the second quarter, kicking five goals to one, with the Bunbury defence under constant pressure as HBL continually attacked the Northern End goal, taking a twenty five point lead into the major break.

The relentless pressure continued in the third quarter as the margin continued to grow, with the Bulldogs having no answers, trailing by 36 points at the final change.

The final quarter which lasted just 22 minutes, saw both teams kick two goals apiece, with the Lions 36 point winners.  For Bunbury they will play Harvey Bulls in this Sunday’s Preliminary Final.  The Bulls have held a monopoly in recent years on a Preliminary Final berth, their third in a row, while for Bunbury they last made the Preliminary Final in 2014.  Harvey Brunswick Leschenault will play in their first Grand Final since 2010, when they stunned the competition, coming from fifth place to take the flag.
