Harvey Brunswick Leschenault have sent a message to the other teams in the top five, after they convincingly defeated South Bunbury at Brunswick Oval on Saturday, in round sixteen of the Dale Alcock Homes South West, South West Football Leagues season.
The Lions were celebrating their 70th anniversary, and it would be a great day all round for the Lions, winning the Reserves, Women’s, League and Colts matches before a big crowd of 954, on a wet and bleak Saturday afternoon.
After Blaine Johnson soccered the opening goal of the match, it would be all the Lions, with the home side going to quarter time thirteen points in front.
Nathan Murray closed the gap by kicking the first goal of the second term, which would lead to the Lions setting up their victory, kicking the next five goals. After a goal to Jai Rout, Jack Fletcher would kick two long range goals, as the Tigers were put under immense pressure by the Lions.
The third term would be much tighter, but the Lions were still able to increase their margin, leading by a game high 45 points at the final break.
Shaun Crane tried his best for the Tigers kicking two last quarter goals, but it was never going to be enough as the Lions stopped a nine game winning streak by South Bunbury.
The final margin of 33 points flattered the Tigers somewhat as the Lions dominated the contest, with Connor Carbone, Robbie Turnbull and Ty Anderson amongst the best players.
The Lions host Eaton in round seventeen, while South Bunbury will venture to Donnybrook to take on the Dons, who had a big win on Saturday against Dunsborough.
