Lions Set To Rise In 2024 With One Week To Go!

Highly experienced Derek Hall will be head coach at the Lions in 2024, and will be looking to improve on last years eighth place result, with the Lions desperately unlucky last year, losing several close matches in a season that could have been much different.

Ty Anderson returns to the Lions where he has previously played 82 games, after a 46 game stint playing for Peel Thunder.

The Lions missed Jarrod Humphries last year, with the prolific goal kicker injured at the Nutrien Ag Country Championship and missed the second half of the season.  He will be ready to fire and will be great for both the Lions and the competition to have him back playing footy in 2024.  Humphries has kicked 117 goals for the Lions, after transferring from Eaton where he kicked 130 goals.

The Lions start their 2024 campaign for the second season in a row against their northern neighbours in the Harvey Bulls, before playing Collie Eagles at Brunswick and then Dunsborough at the Dunsborough Playing Fields, all matches that the Lions would feel they could win.  The following three games will be against teams in the top five from last year, with Busselton, Bunbury and Carey Park all tough assignments before a bye in round seven.   The Lions only play Augusta Margaret River and Donnybrook once in the twenty round season.

Jonathon Sabourne moves into the coaching ranks, taking on the coaching role with the Reserves, while the highly respected David Newman will again be in charge of the Colts after making it to last years Grand Final from an elimination final.  Nathan Smith is the Coach of the Women’s team who played their first final last season in four years, with Smith having an enthusiastic bunch of players at his disposal in 2024.

The Lions play the Harvey Bulls in round one at the Harvey Oval on Saturday, 20 April 2024.
