Busselton won their eighth consecutive match on Saturday afternoon, when they defeated Carey Park at Kelly Park, in round nine of the Dale Alcock Homes South West, South West Football League season.
The Magpies started slowly, kicking the only goal of the first term, the Carey Park dominating general play, but they could not buy a goal in the first term, kicking six behinds, a tale that would come back to haunt them as the match went on.
The second quarter would be the same for the Panthers, controlling play without being able to put a goal on the board, and eventually the Magpies made them pay. Liam Creighton started to dominate the forward line, snapping a good goal to put Busselton twenty points in front. Moments later, Spencer Groenenberg, who had been playing well in the Colts competition, kicking his first goal in League football to extend the margin further. Creighton then made his claim for goal of the year when he dribble kicked a ball from the behind post to give Busselton a 33 point lead at half time.
Harrison Allardyce extended the margin further at the start of the third, before the Panthers finally kicked a goal, which led to three quick goals in succession, courtesy of Brian Hughes, Taj Houlahan and Connor Gadecki.
The margin remained at 33 points at the final break, but any thoughts of a big comeback from the home side were snuffed out when Liam Creighton kicked his fifth for the match, as Busselton marched on to a forty point victory. Jalen Hoffman and Ben Ganzer were amongst the Magpies best, while Reece Payne and Zane Verhaaf played well for Carey Park. The Panthers have a big match in round ten, when they play seventh placed Harvey Brunswick Leschenault, with Carey Park currently sixth on the ladder. Busselton meanwhile, will head to Collie to face the Eagles.
