Magpies Win A Thriller At Payne Park

Busselton and Bunbury have played out a thrilling round five match in the SWFL, with the Magpies taking the win, which leaves them as the only undefeated team in the competition.

In a game of two halves, Busselton took a slender lead into the first break before dominating the second quarter.  Mitchell Howlett had three of the first six goals of the match, as Busselton looked like a well oiled machine, leading by 32 points at half time.

The match was played at a high intensity, and it was hard to find based on the first half evidence how the Bulldogs would get back into the match.  But they did, shutting down Busselton’s midfield, negating any forward thrust and building momentum, leading to Joel Houghton becoming the prominent forward, kicking four goals for the match.

Houghton put the Bulldogs in front at the start of the final term and Busselton looked down and out, but the Magpies rallied and took the lead back again.   Bunbury weren’t done with and attacked relentlessly but couldn’t find a goal to arrest the lead.  Jon Meadmore cut off a forward thrust late in the match which resulted in a goal to Howlett, sealing the victory for the Magpies, who are now the only undefeated team in the competition.

Harvey Bulls fresh off the bye will be Busselton’s next opponent on Saturday night, while Dunsborough, fresh off their maiden victory in the competition, will be Bunbury’s next challenge.
